New .jobs Domain Accepting Applications
Organizations around the world now have the opportunity to apply for the new .jobs domain that will give them a more direct, consistent and efficient means of recruiting new employees. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and “.jobs” have begun accepting applications for the new top-level domains (TLD), which companies may begin using in August.
For an organization to apply for its own .jobs site, it must complete an online application. Registrations in .jobs can only be for the company’s legal or commonly known business name, for example, http://www.shrm.org and http://www.shrm.jobs. In addition, each application will be validated for the company name.
The .jobs start up trade name period is a 60 day period of time designed to remove the “land rush” effect in the launch of .jobs. The period is scheduled to launch on June 19, 2005 and end on or about August 19, 2005. Applications will be taken by certified .jobs registrars. During this Start Up Trade Name period, you must be able to substantiate your company name as an employer organization as of January 1, 2005.
The .jobs start up trade name period allows all employers world wide to submit an application for their desired companyname.jobs at any time during the 60 day period. It is a period of time that alleviates the pressure to be the “first to file”.
.jobs will process each company name application during the start up trade name period. Instances in which there is more than a single valid request for an identical companyname.jobs will enter the .jobs conflict resolution process. Whether you apply for your companyname.jobs on day 1 or day 55 will result in equal standing during this initial 60 day period, subject to the aforementioned resolution process, if applicable.
After this initial 60 day period, valid companyname.jobs requests will become first come, first serve.
