A day before its official launch, MSN Virtual Earth has gone live. MSN appears to have been inspired by Google Maps in this combination of local search and mapping. Virtual Earth introduces a number of interface enhancements to the now-familiar draggable aerial web map, such as the ability to zoom in using your mouse scroll wheel, and a Location Finder to determine your location to determine your real-world location “using Wi-Fi technology.

Going to the command prompt is easy (just type Cmd.exe in the Start->Run Dialog) but navigating to a deeply nested folder can be a hassle.

To make life easier you can simply add a context menu item to Windows Explorer that will open a command prompt window pointing at the selected folder.

1. Open My Computer
2. In the Tools menu select Folder Options
3. Click on the File Types tab
4. From the list select Folder
5. Click the Advanced button
6. Click the New button
7. In the action type 鈥淐ommand Prompt Here鈥? (or any other description you want)
8. In the Application used to perform action type Cmd.exe /K CD %1
9. Click OK and close the Options window.

To remove the new Open Command Promt context menu from the folder:

1. Launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_Root\\Folder\\Shell key and expand the subtree.
3. Locate and right-click the key you created and select Delete.

The Department of Justice has launched an online public registry that allows people to track sex offenders across the nation. The database, which debuted Wednesday, includes the names, addresses and photos of convicted offenders.

The site links the registries of 22 different states. The remaining states are expected to join by year’s end, for a total of more than 500,000 sex offenders listed, according to the Justice Department.
