Computer-Savvy Thieves Rip-Off Gas Stations

At least two St. Louis gas station owners or managers say somebody is breaking into gas pumps, reprogramming interior keypads and instructing the machines to dispense fuel at no charge.

They (the thieves) have a key to the pump and then after they open up the pump they go in and they reprogram the pump, so they can have free gas. And then everybody behind them sees what they’re doing, and they continue,

Sony bets more than video game PS3 success

With the launch of its PlayStation 3 video game console six months away, Sony Corp. is gearing up for an all-out battle to put the electronics and entertainment conglomerate back on a growth path.

At stake is not just pole position in the $25 billion video game industry, but dominance in the next generation of DVDs, the commercial viability of Sony’s Cell microchips and possibly control over living-room electronics around the world.

Intel to unveil single brand for new chips

Intel Corp. on Monday plans to unveil a single brand name for a new generation of chips for laptop PCs and desktop machines, calling them the Core 2 Duo.

Core 2 Duo will phase out the Pentium 4 brand for desktop processors and the Core Duo for laptop chips. The older brands were based on two different designs. The chips, code-named Conroe for desktops and Merom for laptops, are scheduled to start shipping in the third quarter.

ATARI Unveils E3 2006 Line-Up

Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR), announced the complete line-up of video games the Company will showcase during Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the video game industry’s largest trade show and exhibition in Los Angeles, May 10-12. Israel, Finland and South Korea Heaviest Web Users

comScore released the top 15 countries ranked by average hours spent online per visitor for March 2006, as a measure of engagement. Israel led the list, with the average user spending 57.5 hours online during the month – twice as much time compared to the average person in the U.S, which did not rank in the top 15 countries. Rounding out the top 5 were Finland, South Korea, the Netherlands and Taiwan – all countries with high broadband penetration.

comScore also issued a sneak preview of the top 15 media properties worldwide, with MSN- Microsoft Sites topping the list with 538.6 million global users, followed by Google (495.8 million users), and Yahoo! (480.2 million users). Yahoo! Sites led all global properties in page views with 137.2 billion page views during March, followed by Google (108.7 billion page views), and MSN- Microsoft Sites (96.2 billion page views).

Microsoft: Users May Have To Prove Legal Windows Use

Microsoft is piloting an opt-in notification service for its Windows Genuine Advantage online verification program in the U.S., which may make it mandatory for users to get Automatic Update or Windows Update Rights.

Engineered Functional Lung Tissue Grown on 3D Hydrogel

The ability to produce functional, three-dimensional lung tissue in the laboratory would provide a valuable source of engineered replacement tissue to treat a variety of pediatric pulmonary diseases. The engineered, 3-D pulmonary tissue constructs described in a report in the April 2006 issue of Tissue Engineering represent a successful first step in the creation of functional pulmonary tissue constructs designed for therapeutic use.
