IDF Tests WiMax

Israeli Defence Force (IDF) confirms that it is testing the use of WiMax wireless networks during the fight in Lebanon.

In the future combat zone every soldier with a laptop could connect wirelessly to the military WiMax network and receive real time information of the battle field.

IDF planned to test WiMax in the future and signed a 70-100M NIS contract with Tadiran to build the WiMax infrastructure; but due to the recent fighting in the northern border, IDF decided to test the technology earlier than expected, and is one of the first armies in the world to test WiMax as a future communication infrastructure to replace old radio comminucation.

Tom Cruise has won his domain namesake, TomCruise.com, from notorious cybersquatter Jeff Burgar.

Burgar contested the complaint and paid for a three-person panel at domain name arbirtrator WIPO to decide the issue. In the end though, they decided for the movie star and against Burgar - who is a regular at WIPO judgments, having registered hundreds of famous peoples’ name which he redirects to his Celebrity1000.com website.

The recovery console is used to troubleshoot and repair damaged Windows installation.

Many users are not aware that when working with the recovery console, although it looks like a regular command prompt, you actually have a different set of commands that you can use than the regular command prompt.

Also your disk access is restricted to the Windows folder and to the root folder of your hard drive ( you still have access to the floppy drive, if you have one)

Here are the recovery console list of commands.

  • Attrib - Changes the attributes of a file or directory.
  • Batch - Executes the commands specified in the text file.
  • Bootcfg - Boot file (boot.ini) configuration and recovery.
  • ChDir (Cd) - Displays the name of the current directory or changes the current directory.
  • Chkdsk - Checks a disk and displays a status report.
  • Cls - Clears the screen.
  • Copy - Copies a single file to another location.
  • Delete (Del) - Deletes one or more files.

  • Disable - Disables a system service or a device driver.
  • Diskpart - Manages partitions on your hard drives.
  • Enable - Starts or enables a system service or a device driver.
  • Exit - Exits the Recovery Console and restarts your computer.
  • Expand - Extracts a file from a compressed file.
  • Fixboot - Writes a new partition boot sector onto the specified partition.
  • Fixmbr - Repairs the master boot record of the specified disk.
  • Format - Formats a disk.
  • Help - Displays a list of the commands you can use in the Recovery Console.
  • Listsvc - services and drivers available on the computer.
  • Logon - Logs on to a Windows installation.

High-tech jobs recovery? Don’t believe the hype

Ask IT leaders about the high-tech economy these days, and they’ll no doubt tell you about the dramatic nationwide recovery, the rapid growth of jobs and the subsequent rise in technology employment levels.

Many have even said they can’t hire skilled workers fast enough, despite an abundance of available jobs.

These assessments stand in stark contrast to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest national employment figures, however, which showed far fewer jobs added in June than economists or business leaders had projected.

The tech sector, most notably, is suffering from the longest jobless recovery since World War II, having lost more than 400,000 jobs since the start of the March 2001 recession. The recession “officially” ended in November that same year, but for thousands of American tech workers, such claims of a full-blown IT rebound are vastly exaggerated.

According to a recent study prepared by the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Center for Urban Economic Development only 76,300 new IT jobs were created nationwide during the last three years. That’s less than one quarter of the number of tech jobs lost earlier in the decade.

Anti-hijack software under development

Some 30 European businesses and research institutes are working to create software that would make it possible from a distance to regain control of an aircraft from hijackers, according to the German news magazine.

The system “which could only be controlled from the ground would conduct the aircraft posing a problem to the nearest airport whether it liked it or not,” according to extracts from next Monday’s Der Spiegel released Saturday.

“A hijacker would have no chance of reaching his goal,” it said.
