Israeli Defence Force (IDF) confirms that it is testing the use of WiMax wireless networks during the fight in Lebanon.

In the future combat zone every soldier with a laptop could connect wirelessly to the military WiMax network and receive real time information of the battle field.

IDF planned to test WiMax in the future and signed a 70-100M NIS contract with Tadiran to build the WiMax infrastructure; but due to the recent fighting in the northern border, IDF decided to test the technology earlier than expected, and is one of the first armies in the world to test WiMax as a future communication infrastructure to replace old radio comminucation.
