Toshiba giving away free movies with HD DVD players
The battle for the next generation of high definition video formats is often portrayed as this generation’s VHS versus Beta, but there is one aspect to the struggle that was not present in the old days: what if neither format gains popularity with consumers? Most people agree that as HDTV sets become more common in homes, consumers will start to demand higher resolution movies than standard DVD can offer. But that day may not be coming as fast as electronics companies are hoping. Toshiba, in an effort to spur HD DVD sales in the runup to the Christmas season, has started offering three free HD DVD movie titles with the purchase of a new HD DVD player.
