When your computer is a part of a network, you might want to hide it from other users in the network browsing My Network Place. You can hide you computer from My Network Place easily by editing the following registry value.

  • Launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe)
  • Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Navigate to SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
  • In the Menu select Edit->New->DWord Value
  • Name the new value Hidden
  • Double Click Hidden and set the value to 1
