Teens Don’t Buy Legit MP3s Because They Can’t?

According to a recent study, 13-17 year olds are both the most likely to pirate music, and also the most likely to own a portable MP3 player. Yet, as this article goes on to say, the lack of credit card ownership prevents teens from buying music online. The author maintains that since regular record shops don’t sell MP3s, or gift cards to places that do sell MP3s, its practically impossible for teens to buy legit MP3s on their own.

Firefox 2 Release Candidate 2 is now available

Firefox 2 Release Candidate 2 (RC 2), the latest preview release of the next version of the Firefox browser, is now available for download.

Please note that at this time, users should not expect all of their extensions, plugins and themes from previous versions of Firefox to work properly.

The release notes have a detailed list of what鈥檚 new in Firefox 2 RC 2, including:

* A new theme that updates Firefox鈥檚 familiar interface
* Built in Phishing Protection
* Enhanced search engine management and search suggestions for Google, Yahoo! and Answers.com
* Improvements to tabbed browsing, including the ability to re-open recently closed tabs

Microsoft Trims Bonuses For Gates And Ballmer

Microsoft cut bonuses to Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer because of stalled profit gains, according to filings made to the Securities and Exchange Commission Wednesday.

Gates, the Redmond, Wash. company’s chairman, and Ballmer, its chief executive, each earned $616,667 in salary during the 2006 fiscal year, which closed June 30. Bonuses added another $350,000 to each man’s compensation.

Their bonuses were down 14 percent from 2005’s $400,000.

Sony announces inaugural 50GB Blu-ray titles

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced Friday its first 50 GB Blu-ray titles–”Click,” which hits stores on Oct. 10, “Black Hawk Down,” on Nov. 14, and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” on Dec. 12. With the increased volume of the dual-layer disks, Sony has taken a few more liberties with capacity and quality–some special features are now in high definition, audio has been improved, and additional commentary has been added.
